Notable Sotheby’s Art Auction Results

Edward Hopper’s “Bridle Path”, sold for $10.4 million at Sotheby’s Auction House in New York

Sotheby’s Art Auctions Have Recently Had Several Significant Sales, Noted at the Sotheby’s Global Partners Forum Today.

Around the world, prices of significant artworks continue to climb as savvy collectors expand their investment portfolios.

China’s art market has boomed in recent years with paintings, porcelains and other works of art gaining increasing international attention. Today in Chicago, Sotheby’s International Realty Global Partners discussed how China’s newly affluent are collecting their own art and heritage items at recent Sotheby’s auctions.

And in May of this year contemporary art garnered international attention at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction where Roy Lichtenstein’s Sleeping Girl set a new record for the artist when it sold for more than $44 million dollars.

Earlier that month, Edvard Munch’s iconic masterpiece The Scream sold at Sotheby’s auction for over $119 million, setting a record as the highest priced painting ever sold.

And this week, Bridle Path by American painter Edward Hopper sold for $10.4 million, another artist record set at a Sotheby’s Auction.

Here are a few of their notable auction sales, as mentioned during the Sotheby’s Global Partners Forum in Chicago today:


Edvard Munch’s iconic “Scream” sold for $119,922,500, a new record price for any work of art at auction.


Roy Lichtenstein’s “Sleeping Girl” sold for $44,882,500, a new record for the artist.


The Beau Sancy Modified Pear Double Rose Cut Royal Diamond, considered one of the most important historic diamonds ever to come to auction, sold for $9,699,618.


The Henry Graves Jr. 18k Yellow Gold watch from Patek Philippe sold for $2,994,500, setting Sotheby’s record for the highest wristwatch sold worldwide.
